PEACEKEEPERS

They serve in Egypt and Israel
Also Cyprus too
It does not matter what country
They are doing it for you

Standing on the green line
Keeping both sides apart
It's a job that is not easy
And it takes people, with a special heart

Trying to prevent a war
In a land where they don't belong
It's the job of the peacekeepers
So they got to be strong

Maybe its hard to understand
Why people want to fight
But thanks to the Peacekeepers
There will be no war tonight

In memory of those who served
and died in the name of peace.

Our trip to Cyprus was months in the planning, and was the idea of Gary Best ( UN Peacekeeping from St John's Nfld and Buelah Parsons-Paddle, a travel agent also from Nfld) There were 47 people in total and from all across Canada. We did a lot of sightseeing and visited the military grave site where there are nine Canadian  Peacekeepers buried. We erected white crosses and Canadian flags and had a service. It was very emotional. I (Bill Timbury) served three tours there while I was in the CAF and thought it would be a good opportunity for my wife (Liz Timbury) and I to go and see it again and see how it had changed. We really enjoyed it and would go back again.
